On the first of May, the only German world tour race took place in the streets of Frankfurt. In this post, I will give you my takeaways from this race, which was won by Maxim Van Gils (Team Lotto Dstny) together with a short explanation.
1. Maxim Van Gils (Team Lotto Dstny) finishes his spring campaign on a high note.
Maxim Van Gils has won this year's edition of Eschborn - Frankfurt, winning the sprint of a group of about thirty-five riders. With this win, he finished the first part of the season on a high note, including a third place in both the Strade Bianche and La Flèche Wallonne and a fourth place in Liège-Bastogne-Liège. As a consequence, he can now to take some rest before Van Gils can start his preparations for the Tour de France, in which he has a good chance to win a stage.
2. Riley Sheehan (Team Israel Premier Tech) shows once again his potential
Riley Sheehan once again showed, why his current team gave him a chance to become a professional cyclist at the end of last season. The rider from Boulder (Colorado) didn't win, but was third beating very good riders like Soren Kragh Andersen (Team Alpecin Deceuninck) and Marc Hirschi (UAE Team Emirates). In the upcoming weeks, Sheehan will get more opportunities to get good results, as he will go to the "Tro Bro Léon" and the "Four days of Dunkirk".
